FAQ about LIGHTER·KNIFE

Why doesn’t the LIGHTER·KNIFE come with a lighter?

We are trying to help you out by NOT including a lighter with your LIGHTER·KNIFE. Shipping butane-filled lighters require specific paperwork and transportation methods. If we were to ship butane lighters, both the cost and the shipping times for our products would increase significantly. Full-size Bic lighter are easy to find. It’s far better to buy a lighter locally or purchase a Bic lighter online from larger retailers.*

What type of lighter works with LIGHTER·KNIFE?

The LIGHTER·KNIFE is designed to work with the gold standard of lighters: the full-size Bic brand lighter. Other brands might fit, but our recommendation is to stick with the Bic.

Can I use “wrapped” designer or custom Bic lighters with my LIGHTER·KNIFE?

Bic has a line of full-size lighters with an assortment of custom graphic designs. These designs are applied by wrapping a standard lighter in a thin sheath of plastic or “wrap”. A wrapped lighter will fit into your LIGHTER·KNIFE, but you run the risk of tearing the custom graphical plastic when you install it. For this reason, we don’t recommend using wrapped lighters.

What’s the best way to open the blade on my LIGHTER·KNIFE?

Hold the flat sides of the handle in one hand. On the bottom, use your middle, ring, and little finger. On the top, use your thumb. Make sure nothing obstructs the path of the blade. With your index finger free, place it on the top of the blade-assist lever and pull down. This will cause the blade to open. The loud snap tells you that the locking mechanism has engaged.

How do I unlock the blade to close my LIGHTER·KNIFE?

Looking into the handle of the knife from the blade side, not that a thin metal piece (the liner) is at a slight angle. This is the locked position, which it prevents the blade from being closed. Use the thumb of the hand holding the knife to press this liner down so that it is parallel with the other parts. Use your other hand to start to close the knife. With the liner just clear of the blade, it should move freely. Once the knife has been unlocked, move all fingers out of the path of the blade and continue to rotate the blade into the handle.
